Dear Hiring Manager,
I am interested in the position being offered this summer at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as a pre-med intern.
I have excellent people skills and I love to help others. I also have some experience in hospitals due to some volunteer work i have done ( CTCA Eastern Regional Center). My work at the CTCA has enhanced my need to provide quality service to patients with a smile. I find that the greatest satisfaction you can have in this line of work is cheering a patient up. Furthermore, I am CPR certified (until feb 1st 2011; but I plan on getting the certification renewed), which I am sure will be an asset in this particular job setting. I am a very good time manager and like to finish projects ahead of time, so that I will have time sufficient enough to edit and revise.
I believe that my love of the field, time-management skills etc will be an asset to the hospital Thank-you for your consideration. I can be reached at ernestinagambrah@aol.com. I hope to hear from you soon.
Cordially,
Ernestina Gambrah

Former Mayor Street Visits BITS.

Yesterday afternoon, former mayor (of Philadelphia) John F. Street dropped in on the students in the BITS program. About 300 or more of us were gathered in one of the large Gladfelter Hall auditoriums, from 2:00 to 3:00.
Based on the things that were discussed during this meeting, i think the intention of Mayor Street's visit was to teach the BITS students a few lessons about life, and encourage us to keep moving forward towards our life goal, but in a fun interactive way.
When I first heard that the former mayor was planning to visit the BITS students, I was reluctant to go. I thought that he would ramble on and on about his experiences as mayor or some other topic that wouldn't really catch my interest. Contrary to my prior belief, Mayor Street presented a wonder program. It was a nice blend of fun and powerful life lessons. I liked it a lot. At the end of the program Mayor Street left us with an insightful quote about life. He said, "A man (or woman) who stops to throw a stone at every barking dog, will never reach his destination." Think about it ...

Interview Questions
What motivates you to go the extra mile on a project or job?
I'd have to say that my persist ant, "stick to it" attitude is what motivates me to go the extra mile on a project or job. Once i start a project or job, I put my best foot forward and give 110% to it until its completed, especially if its for the benefit of the customers. I like to finish what I've started and subsequently be able to look back and be proud of my work.
Which is more important: creativity or efficiency? Why?
In my opinion, creativity and efficiency and are equally important. Further more i think that having both of these traits is more of an asset than posse sing only one . I say this because a creative mind can be very important in the job setting, in terms of coming up with marketing and advertising plans to attract more customers etc, but if the employee is not efficient then the employee will not be able to function in the job setting or relay his/her creative ideas in a way that will be helpful to the company.
What have you learned from your mistakes?
I have learned that making mistakes are part of life, but you can't let every little mistake bring you down. "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger," they say. I learn from my mistakes, they make me stronger.

Office of Sustainability
As an intern in the bITs program i work for the Office of Sustainability. Our project is to create an audit of water fountains 10 buildings on campus, and identify them on floor plans. After this we have to gather information about the water fountains,( such as type, model number etc) so that a fitting attachment for refilling water bottles can be found for each water fountain model. The goal of this project is to help temple go green by cutting down on the usage of disposable water bottle, because they are harmful to our environment. Below is the link to our blog..

Post Secondary Research
As my junior year of high school approaches, I think its high-time for me to start choosing some prospective colleges that I would like to go to, and begin working to meet the criteria of them. To find good colleges, here are some useful search engines:
http://www.college-search-engine.org/
This website helps students search for a college based on the degree(s) their interested in pursuing.
http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp
This extremely thorough search engine created by collegeboard pairs you up with a college based on school type (four year or two year), size ,location, majors, cost & financial aid, SAT and ACT scores, sports and activities etc.
http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/
The College Navigator search engine is a very complete college search engine. It sifts through colleges based on location, institution type, and level of award.
Since I'm leaning toward medicine, some undergraduate colleges that I found with these search engines are:
Duke University(in NC), Emory College (in GA) and also Georgetown (in Washington Dc).

Mission Statement
Hi! My name is Tina. I'm a junior at HSES in Phila. PA. I am a very diligent student and eager to learn. As of now I am an intern at the bITs (building information technology skills) at Temple University. My interests include reading, writing, volunteering and singing. As far as professions, I aim for a job that will not only provide me with sufficient income, but also make me happy. So far I'm interested in the medical field, specifically surgery. Everyone in my immediate family works in the health care industry, so that's how I was introduced to it. I truly became interested in medicine (specifically surgery) during anatomy sophomore year in high school. We dissected a fetal pig. While some of my classmates gagged and groaned about the smell and having to cut out the pig's vital organs, I was truly interested and could see myself as a surgeon. =)
